Sunrise with Sickie– Run, Swim and Cycle with Masters Sports

Do you run? Do you swim? Do you cycle?

Have you ever thought about combining your love for any of these sports with the agility and strength that comes from the other two? Well, the Masters Sports program is the place to do it!

Started by the MastersMasters Swim Sickie Sports Director, Ron ‘Sickie’ Marcikic, in 1983, this program offers an array of running, swimming and cycling workouts available for any fitness level. Anyone, from a freshman on his or her first day of college to a seasoned athlete of 40 years, can join in, swimming with Coach Sickie, running with Coach Terry Martin or the combined Triathlon program, and increase their abilities with great coaching and highly experienced staff.

For 31 years, the UCSD Masters Swimming Program, under the tutelage of Masters Sports Director and Head Coach, Ron ‘Sickie’ Marcikic, has offered quality swim workouts to students, staff, faculty and the surrounding community. Utilizing two 50 meter pools and the weight room at the Canyonview Aquatic Center, Masters Swimming provides a very affordable, very fun and comprehensive lifetime fitness program for adult athletes.

Masters Running
Masters Running offers a unique and professional approach to training for the adult runner. Some experience is required to participate in this strong training program, but if you like to run and want to improve, this program is for you! Coaches Terry Martin, Tom Piszkin and James Sheremeta have trained athletes from casual runners to national caliber elite runners.

Masters Triathlon
Centered on routine training in the 3 triathlon sports of swimming, running and cycling, the Masters Triathlon program gets athletes ready for this incredibly challenging event. Our Head Triathlon Coach, Terry Martin, has been competing in triathlons for more than two decades. The program supports those interested in participating in their first, short triathlon as well as athletes with ambitions for going the “Ironman” distance. Open to all levels of ability.

This program fits any schedule, with 27 different workouts, 1.5 hours long, that run throughout the week, 7 days a week. If that is not motivation enough, all of the participants are also training and will help push and encourage your success. This is the perfect environment and flexible schedule for getting into the water, onto the track or on the seat of a bike. By yourself or with a friend or two, jump in and and get moving with Masters Sports!

BEGINNERS TRIATHLON CLINIC

If one of your New Year’s fitness goals includes completing a triathlon, make a plan to train and succeed by joining UCSD Masters Sports Beginners’ Triathlon Clinic. The 12-week program is under the direction of our Head Triathlon Coach, Terry Martin, with all training is on campus and includes swimming workouts at Canyonview Pool, running workouts at the North Campus Track and triathlon turbo bike training.
